CELLnTEC's estrous cycle model, CellEstrous, is the first in vitro system ever to model a complex, highly dynamic structure: the vaginal epithelium during the estrous cycle using our RPVAK-WIS rat epithelium cells.
As seen in the series of photos on the right, in response to cyclical hormonal levels, this in vitro system dynamically alters its structure, passing through several stages including
- thickening
- production of mucus cells
- sloughing of the cornified layer
This dynamic structural modeling is a first in vitro.
It offers a brand new approach to testing the estrous cycle, and modeling the effects of new therapeutics from both biochemical and structural perspectives simultaneously.
